Artist's Comments

Inspired to" Shadow of the Beast" main character Aarbron.

This is a small tribute to the reason why nowadays I work in the videogame industry, for it was early proof that art and games do come together, and when they do, they can change one's mind and life deeply.

I made this in about 4 hours, and unfortunately as my time is very limited, I could not give my 100% dedication as I wished to, perhaps in the future I will do better.

Feel free to leave some constructive comments if you think they can improve my future works :)

It's amazing how many people actually know or have played this game, but only those who played it on the Amiga still remembers and treasure it ^^

Yeah, I agree. It because the other versions of the game just don't compare... The music is still FANTASTIC, too. They really tried to push the technology of that game so it did visually everything the Amiga was capable of, and it turned out gorgeous. :D (despite the grotesque designs, heh heh)

Yes, technology wise was a break through...

I can't recall the artist's name, but I really love some of his works, and the fact that this game feel like playing a painting coming to life is amazing.

On a side note, meeting the ex president of psygnosys and have a quick chat with him was like a childhood dream come true ^^ (If only I worked in videogames 10-15 years ago!)

I've always wanted to pursue a proper remake/enhancement done by people who can program as well as I could create the assets of the game, but so far nothing, this could be a good place where to ask if someone is interested I suppose! :D

Holy crap... I want to do the exact thing! (do a remake) I was searching last night to see who actually holds the copyright/rights to it since Psygnosis got renamed and the original producer of the game also got renamed. So wow, I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one!

I mean, Ubisoft revived Prince of Persia (and did it justice :D )so why not a forgotten classic like Shadow of the Beast? And they also redid Pirates, which was a fantastic Amiga game...

Since it's a platformer, it'd be cool to do an independent game based on it... if the rights owners can be contacted, anyway. :\

Oh, the artist? I was actually fortunate to find his art book at GDC in San Francisco last month. His name is Roger Dean and his website is here: [link]

I can't figure out if he was the actual art director/art style though... he mostly does dragons, landscapes, and architecture. But regardless his art is stunning.

So you're in the video game industry? What do you do? I'm a 3D modeller/texturer.

To be honest, I wouldn't even want to sell it, as long as it was good looking and smooth/improved gameplay (Good coding), I wouldn't mind working it for free in my spare time. Although at the moment, I am already working on a remake of Moonstone (You also might know this one from Amiga), with some programmers friends from work, but as they are very busy with other things already, progress are slow, but the advantage is that we are building a 2D engine that should allow almost any type of 2D games to be easily made, so Shadow of the Beast might be next on the list (Unless someone else comes up willing to program).

It's true, It is a great time for remakes, although personally I always preferred, really nice 2D super sharp and polished graphics over, badly modeled 3D or just 3D gameplay that does not catch what the original game was about (Like in case of PoP, which is a good game on it's own, but I really can't see any connection with the first game).

But yeah, in the worst case scenario, you can just alter some of the sprites and backgrounds, and you can sell it under a different name, if the graphics are really good, and it is fun to play.

Yeah, now I remember him, I did some of my uni projects based on that artist, a shame I lost all my info about him!

I have not touched 3D for a while, but I am going back on it, thanks to my bro which is Senior character artist, so I should be back on my feet in no time, meanwhile I work for the Quality Assurance department, when the artists don't randomly grab me to help them out with some 2D stuff!

(For some reasons previously I did press the button "send" by mistake so there is a half post up here that I cannot delete or edit, DA is weird)

Thanks, the pose is mainly what I imagined the complete original artwork of "Shadow of the Beast" would look like if it had shown more than just the head and bust.

I promise I will more, why aren't days 10 hours longer? :D
